Casper the little chipmunk

Today we were in the yard and my son starts yelling at me to come in the dog run.  He shows me a little chipmunk on the rocks.  I knew some lived underneath that area…but this one did not look good.

I’m looking at the little chipmunk and thinking the worst…it reminded me of a raccoon who wandered around our old backyard and then “took a nap” and miraculously “walked away” when the hubby came home.  My son then told me he found the chipmunk on his bow and arrow in the grass and he picked up the chipmunk and put it on the rocks!!  We immediately went in the house to wash hands.

We checked on him (or her) throughout the afternoon.  On one check we found another little one rolling in the grass.  Not sure what happened to that one. Later, we saw the same little one exploring and he seemed okay. Since he was in the dog run, my daughter would stand guard near by when the dogs were out.

He just sat on the rocks and watched us move around.  Sometimes he would get startled and run inside, but he was back out in less than a minute.

Not even my husband mowing the grass nearby scared him away!  The above picture shows how close he was on the loudest old John Deere mower. This is a close up of the bottom left hand corner…there is Casper just watching him mow.  He didn’t hide once.

For Casper’s sake, I hope we see a little less of him in the future.  But it was a pretty cool day watching him watch us! Also, can’t believe my little one picked him up!  The kid is afraid of plastic bugs.  Guess he just likes the furrys like his mom.

The toads are singing in the pond…a sign it is time for bed!
