The Ups and Downs of Life

2019 will always hold a special place in my heart and it only seems natural that it was the end of a decade. On the positive side, my real estate career really started to blossom. We also took on the adventure of fostering cats.

He had me at “Hello”

I will not be a foster failure…

I swore I would not fail, I would not keep one. Nobody believed I could do it. I’m sure there were bets out there on how many , if not all, I would keep.

Tiger was the first to be adopted. Then Jack & Jojo. Then there was Frank. The first one I had met. The one who cried for weeks for his bottle like a little baby. The one who made himself at home with Popeye in front of the fire.

Frank the flying Squirrel – I love my failure

My excuse to keep him? He was a holiday gift for the kids…and it must have been a sign that he was the last one to get adopted! How can you not love a cat that climbs up things just to be at chest level to you and then launches himself at you, ready or not!

Frank, my favorite co-worker

Oh and why the “flying squirrel”? He loves to climb up things like the cat tower, look me in the eye and leap onto my chest!

Instagram Addiction

I have to admit I was quite shocked and disappointed in myself when I realized how long it had been since I last wrote a blog. I could blame motherhood and a busy fall real estate market, but the truth is I have one thing to blame – Instagram.

I joined social media for my real estate business (I know I’m a little behind in the times). Then one day I went into the barn and found a frog. The photographer in me called. It sure was easier to post on Instagram they go in the house and download pictures to blog about!

However, one of my New year’s resolutions is to be more consistent with my blogging because sometimes words are just as important as photos. You can still find an almost daily dose of Green Acres nonsense on Instagram @MyOwnGreenAcres.

RIP my three friends

For every up there is a down. The hardest part of this year was losing three special animals.

The first and hardest loss was our dear Zombie. We spent all winter nursing Bluebella back to health and then in an instant we lost Zombie.

The second was a sweet but mischievous kitten named Miso. She was the sister to our dear barn cats, Oscar and Felix. She came to us months later and was a rambunctious house cat. She was only with us a couple of weeks when we lost her to an illness.

The third was our other sweet Astralorp chicken, Ozzie. For months she lived with half her feathers missing. It seemed a combination of her work as well as Chickaletta. As winter approached, we tried to load her with protein to grow back her feathers. As with Zombie, one day she was just gone.

The Promise of 2020

I am so grateful for all the people who have read this blog or followed me on Facebook and Instagram. Knowing that even one person (besides my family) may have smiled from something I said or photographed is one of the most special feelings. Thank you all so much.

2020 – The roaring ’20s are here. I know they will be laughter, love and heartache. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead and hope you will continue to join me on this adventure outside suburbia at, My Own Green Acres!
