Chicks are here again!
We talked about getting new chicks, but we were still undecided. Then over the weekend I called Tractor Supply just to see how long they would have chicks. They said until the end of September and they currently had Asian and Silver Laced Wyandottes pullets. Then the hubby said he needed something from the store to finish the oil change he was doing….I said let’s go!
Well, actually I called the other Tractor Supply in Wisconsin and they only had Americanas (Easter Eggers). I asked the hubby if he wanted to press our luck since both of our Easter Eggers were boys the first time around, but he agreed to go with the Wyandottes.
The only problem is we don’t know their exact birthday. I am guessing they are not day old chicks, but probably a few days old. Still adorable!
Meet the four new chicks
If you met our first chicks, you know we have a Bluebella….
Blackbella actually has the blackest head and a nice black stripe down her back.
Crispy, named by my step-son, has a brownish head and a neat grey streak in the middle of the black stripe on his back.
I have a feeling we will need to find some other way to tell them apart because I don’t think this coloring will last long.
Dixie, named by me, has a nice black stripe down her back and the cutest little grey fuzz on her end. She has really neat coloring above her eyes too.
Normalhouse….I was sure it was going to be Creeper since my son is in a Minecraft phase and it sounds great with Zombie. Nope.
She has the coolest markings on her eyes that make it look like she is wearing a mask!
After a few days, we have come to an agreement that her nickname can be Norma.
When the Hubby heard the name Crispy, his suggestion was to add a “Harold”. I immediately thought of the movie, Harold and Maude. We know what happened to Maude so he was ruled out…. turns out he was thinking as in Harold’s Chicken Shack, but still!
The new and improved Brooder Box
I love the new vinyl floor in the brooder box. Clean up is so easy and the girls seem happy! Plus, now it is on wheels so I can move it around myself. I am so glad we didn’t wait until fall for more chicks. Plus, like having a kid, it’s so much easier the second time around when you kinda know what you are doing!
