We finally have our OWN Green Acres
The hubby and I decided back in 2016 to sell our house in the western suburbs. The goal was to find a house with a few acres, not too far of a commute for him since he often works in Chicago, a pole barn for him and space for gardens and animals for me. The idea of homesteading and being more self sufficient was so intriguing I had to find my green acres!
In December 2017, we finally moved into our four acre homestead in northern Lake County. My son nicknamed it the “Skeleton House” because he was fascinated with a skeleton key he found in the basement door. It has a huge pole barn, a pond, and lots of invasive species like buckthorn and garlic ginger we will slowly convert back to native plants.
Adventures Outside Suburbia
Whether its seeing deer in the yard, spotting a new kind of bird or planning how to landscape the yard, everyday is an adventure here! This is not the Suburbia of my childhood.
So come along for the journey on my green acres and maybe you will find a way to make a “green” change in your life too.
