Leave it to the Hubby to fix the Garden!

As I mentioned in my last post, Losing Hope, I thought the garden was a complete loss this year.  The weeds were so out of control and the mosquitoes were unbearable….a vicious circle of too many mosquitoes to weed and then too many weeds helping the mosquitoes to breed.  I asked the hubby if there was any way to save the garden and his first response was no. Little did I know that he was stewing on the problem.  Leave it to the good old hubby to create a solution.  I like to call it, “Extreme Weed Control”

First, you take an out of control garden:

Wanna play I-Spy?  Who can find the veggies among the weeds?

Second, add a well dressed and well equipped problem solver:

Hubby and the weed wacker

When the first set of tools die, get better ones and dress for the worst:

Hubby and his version of extreme weed control

Extreme Weed control – use a heavy duty string trimmer (aka weed wacker) and follow with a leaf blower. (I’m wearing the blower so no photo). Even with me blowing at his face, he was bit a lot.  The worst was on his eyelid.

Finally, you have:

A garden you can actually walk into without being completely swarmed.  The plants can breath and thrive and hopefully produce some nice vegetables! A smile on my face knowing hope is not lost and neither are my dreams of home grown veggies.

Is Extreme Weed Control the best solution?

Of course not.  The weed roots are left behind and will return.  This is not a “best solution”…but it helped us get a handle on the garden.  It gave me hope and a good story.  One day we will look back and laugh as we say,”remember that first crazy summer at the house…”

You know, I don’t want to inflate his ego… but I might need to add a “Hubby knows Best” section to the blog.
